Let the Public Paint Your Aircraft

By admin | December 8, 2007

With all of the horrendous liveries we’ve seen over the past years, I was curious to see what the aviation enthusiasts could come up with.  Modified Airliner Photos has a great database of user-submitted airline liveries; and boy I pleasantly surprised!  With paint schemes as beautiful as these, airlines should be calling them to design their liveries.

Alitalia

Air France

Lufthansa

Air Canada

American Airlines

I think that the american airlines 777 looks fabulous and fantastic american should change their colors like that and it would have a more corporate image like that and you never know they might do it with their 787's

The Alitalia and American liveries look spectacular, real piece of work, they should implemented on their current colors, specialy the alitalia plane

    congrats

can somebody do a olympic futuristic livery

The Alitalia livery looks promising, certainly better than the exisiting one which is so outdated. The airline itself is in dire need of re-branding and totally new image. I particularly like the A L I T A L I A font, it's classy yet contemporary at the same time. However, I'd put the name in the center of the fuselage above the window line. Maintain the color scheme (green, red and white), it spells Italy!!. The tail section and nacel (engine cover?) design needs reworking, too 'computer generated' and has been done (see: Air Lanka). definitely keep the bow & arrow logo. Real cool . . . Keep the design in the aft section of the fuselage and keep it simple, crisp and clean. If done right it should remain 'current' for next 15 – 20 years.

American Airline could use a fresh new design. Something that reflects the America of today. I like the idea of painting the fuselage in soft metallic gray but not sure about the 'ribbon' design in the front. How about increasing the size of the eagle (stylized in two colors with softer edges) to cover the entire tail and the aft section of the fuselage (see Quantas), while in the front section you paint the name AMERICAN in blue and AIRLINES in red underneath it to balance the design composition. Just 2 simple design elements. Logo in the aft section, name in the front section. Simple, clean yet strong and communicative. It's American. . .

Whow! AA, AZ and AF liveries look spectacular, I think all three may use the change, LH one hmmm…bit of a look of cheap airline, the design is good, colour scheme is not so hot. AC – reminds me to much of US Air fromfew years ago, not very Canadian.

I'm lost. With the airline crisis, you can't find a decent price to go anywhere. Goodbye first class, welcome coach!

Lufthansa design look a little like Vietnam Airlines in regards to the colour scheme. I suggest it retain its Navy Blue. My fav is Air France and American Airlines.

Qantas needs a new colour scheme. Can someone move QF away from Red, Ochre, Yellow and Orange?

I think that the american airline livery is more of a logo for the company DONT CHANGE IT

  • Tom

Alitalia is the best one for me. Really don't like the Air France colors or the Lufthansa either. American Airlines paint ain't too bad, but the Air Canada isn't great. On the whole though, these are good paints.

Yes but it makes me Experience.

American Airlines is my Favourite, Jack!

  • Leaveitalltome

wow i love these!! major improvements especially AA (love the eagle!), 2 bad they're not real :( not 2 crazy about AF and Lufthansa does kinda look Vietnam-ish but overall pretty cool

  • Strugatsky

Lufthansa and Air Canada are absolutely amazing. Air France sans the font is very stylish. Alitalia is also very good. The only one I dislike is American Airlines.

  • jdude

They all look great accepted the American Airlines ones. But unless you are some professional designer, they are never going to be used. Just be happy with the current designs and enjoy. I am unhappy, however, about the United/Continental merger's new logo.

  • Roy_digital

Air France needs to enhance and develop its ageing aircraft livery

  • Halifax123

    they are ALL amazing! congrats!

  • Nauman d’ Majestico

Air France, Lufthansa and Air Canada all three are just mix and match types, (1) AF looks horrible in that faded color scheme, i think Euro-White looks elegant and economical for the company (2) LH crane logo is identity of the Airline, but rest of the color scheme makes it an update Veitnam Arilines livery or Air Aisa wavy livery, therefore this livery will hurt the company’s legacy (3) AC is a major turn off cuz its too close to US Airways former livery, and the performance of the airline (US Airways is also pethatic) therefore they shouldn’t change it and should retain the existing one. AA & Alitalia are super cool, an all new design and identity, both look as great as the Airline itself, although they are not premium carriers but this livery will really help them modify their identity. LOVE Alitalia too much in this color scheme.

  • Vanguardmd80

WOW….love these…they are all AWESOME! I work for Lufthansa and love this….kind of modern meets the “Retro” style! Well done. Alitialia is “classic”,  is the fuselage supposed to be a NWA off silver? . Air France looks great…the euro white is out dated and looks bad on thier seemingly filty planes. Very classy I think.  Air Canada…too dark and the tail is Tango’s…still nice. American..nice concept, the blue lettering does not work for me, the eagle reminds me to much of Gulf Air’s, all and all nice concept but looks to much like Aeromexico.

I Love Americans plane  and British :D

    The Alitalia is really nice:)
