Let the Public Paint Your Aircraft

By admin | December 8, 2007

With all of the horrendous liveries we’ve seen over the past years, I was curious to see what the aviation enthusiasts could come up with.  Modified Airliner Photos has a great database of user-submitted airline liveries; and boy I pleasantly surprised!  With paint schemes as beautiful as these, airlines should be calling them to design their liveries.

Alitalia

Air France

Lufthansa

Air Canada

American Airlines

Whow! AA, AZ and AF liveries look spectacular, I think all three may use the change, LH one hmmm...bit of a look of cheap airline, the design is good, colour scheme is not so hot. AC - reminds me to much of US Air fromfew years ago, not very Canadian.

Olympic Air's new owner needs a new livery. Who can make a good one as those above?

American Airline could use a fresh new design. Something that reflects the America of today. I like the idea of painting the fuselage in soft metallic gray but not sure about the 'ribbon' design in the front. How about increasing the size of the eagle (stylized in two colors with softer edges) to cover the entire tail and the aft section of the fuselage (see Quantas), while in the front section you paint the name AMERICAN in blue and AIRLINES in red underneath it to balance the design composition. Just 2 simple design elements. Logo in the aft section, name in the front section. Simple, clean yet strong and communicative. It's American. . .

The Alitalia livery looks promising, certainly better than the exisiting one which is so outdated. The airline itself is in dire need of re-branding and totally new image. I particularly like the A L I T A L I A font, it's classy yet contemporary at the same time. However, I'd put the name in the center of the fuselage above the window line. Maintain the color scheme (green, red and white), it spells Italy!!. The tail section and nacel (engine cover?) design needs reworking, too 'computer generated' and has been done (see: Air Lanka). definitely keep the bow & arrow logo. Real cool . . . Keep the design in the aft section of the fuselage and keep it simple, crisp and clean. If done right it should remain 'current' for next 15 - 20 years.

I think that the american airlines 777 looks fabulous and fantastic american should change their colors like that and it would have a more corporate image like that and you never know they might do it with their 787's
