Detailed Qantas 747 Explosion Pictures

By admin | August 4, 2008

Qantas 747 Explosion

It certainly does appeart that this was an oxygen bottle by the placement.  With the high pressure inside those bottles and the differential in pressure across the skin of the pressure vessel, it doesn’t take much to create a hole.

Closer view yet.  The damage to the electrical wiring is apparent.

These look like some sort of oxygen system blow-out valves, but I’m not certain.  Anyone with more information on this?

The explosion also did damage to the passenger door above the bottle.  Don’t see the damage?

How about now?  Take a look at that last picture and you’ll see where the reinforced skin around the door was compromised.

A view inside the cabin which seems to be directly above the explosion.   There was significant damage to the interior of the aircraft, none of which seemed to be structural.

i bet the aircraft was over stressed from over speed!!!

    What a silly comment....

The circular doors that are shown are on the port side of the aircraft, and are 'overpressure' doors, which open if the interior pressure exceeds roughly 9,5 psi over ambient.

The aircraft involved in this latest Qantas incident was the LONGREACH - the same aircraft that Qantas spent $100 Million to repair after it skidded off the runway in Bangkok in 1999.

This aircraft also had to run on backup battery to land in Bangkok in 2005 when all 4 electrical generators failed 15 minutes out.

Now this latest incident with the explosion.

QANTAS WAKE UP.....it's time to GET RID of the LONGREACH. Dont spend more millions of $$$ to fix it just to avoid a write-off of the aircraft. If you ignore the warning signs of the stresses this airframe has sufferred you will be counting bodies as well as $$$.

Bloggs Bloggs they are not the same aircraft! They are all called Longreach thats what Qantas calls their 747-400 aircraft. The Bangkok overrun incident was with an aircraft rego VH-OJH, Bangkok on back up electrical power was with VH-OJM and by the way not all 4 generators failed only 3. This one into Manila was with VH-OJK so all different aircraft. Get your facts and dates correct!
  • good thing no one was hurt with the explosion and it didn't crash..
  • Yes thats the best part that no one was hurt, human injury is what is the biggest loss in these accidents.. lucky to get away..
  • It's amazing that it did not crash. I've never heard of an explosion that large while in flight, without the plane crashing.
  • The pictures are really scary, we need to keep enhancing on the flight technology for better security of general public. I am sure Boeing and Airbus are doing the needful.
  • That is really dangerous..
  • Astonishing, we need some reliable technology to feel safe.
  • Wow this is some crazy explosion. Where did you find the time to take the photos is my question! Look inside the cabin its just a nasty some reinforced door!
  • The condition is very disaster. Was there any life loss in this? I could not understand by seeing the pic if its the front side or the tail of the plane?
  • Yap agree with you the situation look really nasty. Few days earlier a plane in Iran also got crashed but there were no survivors. Hope this was not the situation in this incident.
  • Thank God it didnt break into pieces. If this would have happen 5000 feet above then the plane would be torn into pieces.
  • Yah this sort of incident are happening so frequently you never know when they happen. Well hope for the best
  • The Airliner seems to have gone through a real lot of damage. It is amazing how a mere oxygen bottle can cause this level of damage. Hope this does not happen in future. Great post by the way and the pictures were also great.
  • I wonder if something similar happened to the flight that crashed in the Atlantic this week? That was terrible and really sad.

They coudnot be linked as the Air France plane was struck by lightning but this one of this 747s oxygen tanks exploded
  • Turns out something else brought down that plan.
  • good that the aircraft wasn't damaged completely ..
  • t
This was a freak accident and Qantas cannot be blamed for a over pressurized o2 cylinder. It could of happend to anyone.
  • Mind blowing, nice that nobody was hurt..

i am so glad that i was not onboard that cause i would s%$&my self as we have just had a car accident recently and this would the iceing on the cake of fear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • POKeMON
this would be so scary !
  • I would have think twicw before boarding an aircraft now...
  • All the passengers were blessed by God that no one was injured. God's grace we need some reliable technology to feel safe
  • It's time to GET RID of the LONGREACH. Dont spend more millions of $$$ to fix it just to avoid a write-off of the aircraft. If you ignore the warning signs of the stresses this airframe has sufferred you will be counting bodies as well as $.
  • All the passengers were blessed by God. The pictures are so dreadful. But thank God all the passengers were saved.
  • Where did you find the time to take the photos is my question! Look inside the cabin its just a nasty some reinforced door!

Hair loss or Alopecia is a problem most of us are facing on a daily basis. Some studies say that men tend to "get" balder faster or that stress contributes to this problem or plainly we're just born with it - carried by genes that is. Nevertheless when it comes to hairloss or caderea parului we have to agree that women suffer the most and spend up a fortune to get rid of this problem. The thing is most products aren't even half good as they are marketed so what's a woman to do ? I think that natural remedies (using eggs and aloe vera) can help your hairloss problem but if people don't start eating and living healthy there's no stop to this issue.
  • Such a tragic explosion shown in these pictures. I wonder how these accidents happened........
  • Kesia757
