British Airways 777 LHR Crash Pictures

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

For those of you just joining this story, this British Airways 777 experienced a loss of engine control while on approach to London’s Heathrow airport. Barely clearing an airport fence, the plane slammed onto the grass clearway, losing its landing gear, and leaving healthy skid marks announcing its arrival. No fatalities were reported, and only [...]

Hard Landing – 1 out of 3 landing gear remaining isn’t bad.

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Every pilot has a bad landing. There were times I thought I’d sent the landing gear through the wing, but I must say I never did. Here’s some pictures of a couple of pilots who actually did. Actually, it’s not fair to say for sure this was a hard landing because, oddly enough, this collapse [...]

Amazing Restaurant in the Sky…Watch Your Step!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Ok, so maybe it’s not exactly aviation related, but it does have altitude.  If nothing else, it gives you a reason to get on an airplane and see this place.  The restaurant hangs from a crane while the piano plays from a separate platform dangling 30 feet from your dinner table.  Make sure you use [...]

Brings new meaning to the saying “Please stay seated until we’ve landed.”

BA 777 Lands Short of Runway

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

A British Airways 777 landed short of the runway at London’s Heathrow airport this morning.  Passengers were told to brace for landing, and the aircraft hit 400 meters short of the runway.  Look cloesly at the circle portion of these photo’s and you will be able to see where the left main gear pierced the [...]

Airline Inspirations – The Dark Side of Aviation

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I’ve been inspired by the desperation of the industry. The ugliness and ruthlessness are so easily depicted through the satire of the traditional Inspirational posters. So here you have it. The Airline Empires Airline Inspirational Posters. If you like them, they’ve been put on a couple of CafePress products, including T-shirts and postcards.

Let the Public Paint Your Aircraft

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

With all of the horrendous liveries we’ve seen over the past years, I was curious to see what the aviation enthusiasts could come up with.  Modified Airliner Photos has a great database of user-submitted airline liveries; and boy I pleasantly surprised!  With paint schemes as beautiful as these, airlines should be calling them to design [...]

Airbus A340 Meets Wall. Airbus Loses.

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Etihad was to receive their next A340 this week, but it seems that delivery may be delayed. While running an engine test at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France, the A340-600 jumped the chocks and headed for the blast wall. The good news is the blast wall held up remarkably well. The bad news is [...]

They Flew What? – Airliners in Colors You Wouldn’t Expect

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

But I thought Southwest only flew 737′s, and the Concorde never flew for an American carrier.  Think again.  This article is a tribute to the odd aircraft types you may never have known airline’s flew. Delta 747-100 Delta flew five of these aircraft from 1970 to 1977.  This was the era of the new “jumbo-jet” [...]

MD-80 Engine Fire – Reality or Doctored Picture?

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

This picture just seems off. I do believe there actually was an engine fire on this aircraft, but it seems suspicious that someone captured its exact moment. Seems more likely that they doctored an existing picture. The pictures below are real, so it did happen. Can anyone find the original of the [...]
