Marion Blakey: "Pilots can fly until age 65" PDF Print E-mail
FAA Administrator, Marion Blakey, said yesterday that the FAA is ready to seize the age limit for pilots. Marion Blakey said, in a speech in Washington, D.C. that it is becoming increasingly difficult to have the Age 60 rule, because there are not so many safety concerns anymore than at the time of the Age 60 rule's implementation.

It's only been about 50 years since General Curtis LeMay made an administrative rule into law by ordering all commercial pilots in the USA out of the seat when they turned age 60. The entire industry, the U.S. Government and ALPA stupidly rolled over and went along with that stupidity. There were no more serious safety issues then than there are now

Thats a good start. Aussie can fly as PIC even when they are older than 65 (with certain requirement). I believe the US should do the same as well.

It's about time! After being forced to retire at 60 I have been doing the more demanding job of flying Falcons for a Fractional and, by all accounts, doing it pretty well. I will be 70 in October. It's in the genes and how you take care of yourself-- not the calendar!

uuuurahhhh the age limit is outdated it's about time that the FAA caught up with the century that we now exist in, retirement has been set at 70 for most of the work force anyhow, why short change the pilots............

Dear Marion,

I'm 69 now. I'm guessing this thing will pass on my 79th birthday.

Give me a call.

I want fly that 5 years that the FAA violated my civil rights by taking it away from me!
I'm only 82 now, but I need to get started on the 5 years I lost pretty soon.

Looks like the AARP is doing more for Pilots than the ALPA ever did.

It was never an equitable rule in the first place.
