It's one thing to design an ugly airplane, but its an entirely different thing to design one that actually flies. Here are some of the ugliest airplanes ever created...and flown.

Delanne Duo-Mono
This one was actually a French design commandeered by the Germans. The cockpit is actually the back of the airplane, which made 6 o'clock shots rather painful.

Handley Page Heyford
With a fuselage that seemed to be disconnected from the wings, the Heyford looked like it was about to fall apart...which it did.

Westland Lysander P-12
The actually made more conventional looking Lysanders, but for some reason they let Dr. Frankenstein work on this one.

Pemberton-Billing PB - 25
Where do you sit?

Westland-Hill Pterodactyl
Ingredients:
- One old car
- One hang glider
- Once ceiling fan
- One six-pack of your favorite beer

Linke - Hofmann R1
A Bi-wing Shorts 330.

Breguet 765 Sahara
Those crazy French. Tail? We don't need no tail!

Caproni Stipa
I just don't understand how this didn't catch on.

Stout Amphibian
Pablo Picaso's first aircraft... at lease it should have been.

Vedo Villi
Can anyone tell me which way is forward?

Caproni Ca.60
Nine wings? Somebody was compensating for something. This thing actually flew...once. It wasn't very far, but it brought true meaning to the term "flying boat." |
A.J. Written by Guest on 2008-03-26 13:03:26 Believe it or not, the Breguet was uglier in real life than the photo depicts. I used to see it around Heathrow years ago. The many comments it elicited, while mostly humorous, made me feel sympathetic for the poor Air France pilots who had to endure them. | Written by Guest on 2008-03-01 19:24:02 | Good one Written by Guest on 2008-01-24 18:26:31 I'd have to disagree on the Breguet 765, it's a beautiful aircraft, although one with non standard lines. One of the most unique ever designed for sure. There is a good model of it available for FS9. | SAM Written by Guest on 2008-01-23 18:29:02 I m interesting for the airline science in this forum. Keep always the best this .. | Written by Guest on 2008-01-17 11:36:28 | Written by Guest on 2008-01-12 12:44:54 |
