ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a
subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today kicked off the
airline's new nonstop daily service from Akron-Canton Airport to Southwest
Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers. The seasonal service will operate
through May 8, 2006, on the airline's popular Boeing 737 aircraft.
The new route marks the eighth airport that AirTran Airways serves from
Akron-Canton. The airline also operates nonstop daily service to Atlanta,
Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, New York (LaGuardia), Orlando and Tampa.
"The Akron-Canton Airport and AirTran Airways have together successfully
grown and achieved what a lot of people didn't think possible. It's been
exciting to work with the airport team and community leaders and to be a part
of this amazing success story," said Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways' vice
president of planning. "This new service is a great way to celebrate our 10
years in the Akron-Canton market and to thank the many loyal travelers in
Northeast Ohio."
"There is no doubt that winter looks better from a beach chair in Ft.
Myers," said Akron-Canton Airport Director Fred Krum. "Thanks to AirTran
Airways, northeast Ohio travelers can escape the cold weather and fly nonstop
to Ft. Myers aboard big, roomy jets at a price they can afford. In fact,
because of AirTran Airways' service, we're able to offer the lowest average
fare of any airport in Ohio."
